I like making partial mountain bases for a couple reasons:ġ) bugs make nice kibble without upsetting people. A few “natural” spawns, but those have been easy enough to handle. Most big infestations I’ve had have been triggered by quests. However, it's also difficult to leave, so self-sufficiency is a must. With thick snow, many raids will often die before reaching the base. I also like colder biomes later in the game, since raids will often be unprepared for harsh temperatures. Penoxyciline is a must, but enemies approach very slowly, and you can make defences that involve huge fires. Terrain is uniformly a mess and movement is very slow. I've found that Tropical Swamp is an exceedingly rare and fun bio. My favorite maps are ones where a road or a river leads into a mountain, since you can often use this funnel as a way to cheese random Humans to drop, using either Infestations or ovens. I've done 1 colonist Mountain runs where they are unable to do violence, and because of how linear the path to my base was, I was able to completely defend with only traps. This is a lot easier to pull off with Rivers and Mountains, which is why both are very good. In general, it's very good to have enemies come at you slowly from a single direction. I would take the infestations I get over mech drops any day of the week. You can also stun lock the one in the door if you don’t. If you’ve got a psycaster with Berserk, you can cast that on the megaspiders to ruinous effect. That allows three melee pawns to attack a single bug at a time, plus a triple rank of shooters behind. If you make 3-5 space wide corridors/min room sizes, you can easily get an entire large colony to block a single door. They don’t work consistently, and infestations are really easy to deal with compared to other raid types. I will say, I don’t bother with a bait room. Making everything wood (including floors) is a nice bonus so you can set it on fire, but for that purpose wood floors would work just as well. So if you don’t feel like turning your entire base into a freezer (some do), you can use an unlit room full of furniture to bait them. It’s more that the bugs prioritize three things:ġ) Room temp >= -17 degrees (not satisfying this will block them entirely) r/RimWorldStreams - For all of your videos and streams needs r/RimWorldTales - /u/srgrafo's Rimworld Comic Series r/RimworldSwap - Swap saves with other players r/ShitRimworldSays - /r/nocontext posts about /r/RimWorld r/RimworldArt - Posts about Rimworld Artwork (not fanart!) r/Rimreddit - Colonists playing only on a single planet r/RimWorldPorn - High Quality Images of Rimworld Colonies No discussing pirated versions of the game.
